After reading your essay, I think you're right. This really made me think about subtle religious references (subtle perhaps only because they are contrasted to a Rube Goldberg slapstick death machine of a house) in films that I hadn't more fully noticed.
Also, Home alone was the first time I went out with friends and we were paired up with girls once we got to the theater. I think it was 6th grade? That was exhilarating.
Objectivists (followers of Ayn Ran) love Christmas, despite being very unreflective atheists. They love it because it's an unabashed celebration of material possessions, so I assume they also love a lot of Christmas movies as well, since what you've said about those movies is right.
